Support » Plugin: Contact Form 7 » Invalid Mail Box Syntax

  • Hi

I’m having an issue, in the WP MAIL tab of the Contact Form 7 setup tabs, I don’t know what is typically put in the second field down FROM: ???

I’ve read the links to the guide – but I don’t get this, is this supposed to be left blank? I.e. it is the senders email address? At the moment it is blank and there is a red warning Invalid Mailbox Syntax.

I wanted to also add, if we put in our email address (like the docs seem to suggest) then when we get a test message sent through, we can’t reply to it, because there is no senders email address included in the message we receive. Below is all we get included in a test message. There is No reply address so we can’t send a reply to a customer even though we entered a reply email.

  • I don’t know what is typically put in the second field down FROM:

The From: field should be an email address that belongs to the same domain as your WordPress site.

Contact Form 7 uses the info in the Mail tab to send an email – just like a regular email you send from your computer. To do that it needs a From: email address.

Because the Contact Form 7 email is being sent from your website, it really needs to be seen as coming from your website.

For example if your website is at mysite.com then you should use an email address like me@mysite.com in the From: field in the Mail tab.

Otherwise it’s likely that your CF7 emails will be rejected as spam somewhere.

See Use a suitable From: address in Contact Form 7 for a detailed explanation (disclosure I am the author of this article).

    Hi

Originally we had our email address in there (if that is what you mean) so xxx@mysite.com

But we still have the same issue described. Emails come back with *no* reply address, to date that is x2 customer enquiry we can’t reply back to unfortunately. Obviously we can no longer have this on the live site, so temporarily we have removed Contact Form 7 and replaced it with the theme default contact form (which has no issues at all).

Is it “something else” that is causing this?

    Regards
    Jon
