Support » Plugin: WooCommerce Braintree Payment Gateway » Invalid card numbers accepted using the sandbox

  • I’m running tests with the Braintree Sandbox. When doing payments using the credit card numbers that should result in unsuccessful verification, the payments are accepted as if the card numbers were valid.

  • This COULD be a problem at the Braintree side since in the transaction log on the sandbox site the transaction have been accepted, which seems to indicate that they in fact did accept the credit card number.

Hi, just to confirm with you. Did you follow this documentation to set up the addon?

I’m running tests with the Braintree Sandbox.

Can you provide more information about the sandbox testing?

    Thank you

Thanks a lot for your prompt reply!!

“Normal” transactions work as expected using the Braintree sandbox with your plugin. The issue I reported came up when I tested using a credit card number that, according to the Braintree Sandbox development documentation -see https://developers.braintreepayments.com/reference/general/testing/php, should result in an invalid card verification response. What happens is that the card is accepted and the transaction goes through as if the card was valid, and the Woocommerce order shows up as completed.

As I said in my second message, this MAY be a problem on the Braintree side, i.e. that they do accept the credit card number despite it’s being invalid. The other possibility is that you don’t process the call-back for card verification from Braintree correctly. I really can’t say. Maybe you could check on your side.

Hi, does the patch you mentioned in the following support post fixes this issue? Or are they two different issues altogether?

    Kind regards

    They’re different issues

Hi, I have submitted a message to the developers to investigate further your findings/issue.

    Thank you

The card accept or decline is controlled by the payment gateway. The addon simply relies on the payment gateway to tell us if it is declined or accepted. So this is something you have to resolved with Braintree. I am guessing they just let things go through in sandbox mode. You will never see this issue in live mode.
