I am in the process of creating an intranet site. I have installed XAMPP on my notebook and have uploaded WordPress to it. I Re-styled the WordPress default theme to my specs, which includes a navigation menu. Each menu button navigates to an autonomous departmental page. I would like to add blogging to these pages as well.

My question(finally) is this: Do I need to download a WordPress kit for each page, or can I simply copy the WordPress folder and rename it as many times as I like?

    Thanks in advance.

  • You have to setup a database for each one. You could copy the wordpress folder, but make sure you don’t copy the wp-config.php.

I also don’t think XAMPP would be the *best* method for an intranet. At my company here, I’ve setup a 2003 server (long story) with apache, php, mysql, etc. with WordPress MU installed and we use the Active Directory to push out the DNS. With XAMPP, you will have to edit each host file on each computer so that they can access your notebook. This is tedious if you have more than 5 people in your company.

Thank you for the quick response. You have effectively answered my question. I appreciate your help.

My intention is to build the intranet locally(XAMPP); then transfer it to the company server when completed. I have little to no server side experience and am therefore learning as I go.

Once again, thank you for your help.
