# internal server error in WordPress MU

 * I was getting an internal server error after replacing my .htaccess with the 
   htaccess.dist. I commented out every line and added them in one by one. The offending
   line is:
 * RewriteRule ^$ BASE/wp-inst/index.php [L]
 * I know only what I learned in about 10 minutes at Apache’s site about the syntax
   of these rewrite rules, which is enough to almost be dangerous. Is there a problem
   with this line that needs to be changed? If it’s just something squirrelly with
   my server, is leaving this commented out going to make a huge difference?

 * You can leave that out. Better yet don’t bother with htaccess.dist at all; use
   the .htaccess file provided in Options » Permalinks. If you don’t see one there,
   then WP is automatically managing your .htaccess file and you don’t need to do
   anything. If you do see it there, copy and paste it into your .htaccess file,
   replacing any old rules you may have had.

   work.

 * Is there a board for questions on MU elsewhere then?
 * FWIW, I assumed it would be appropriate for the Beta section and assumed that
   since “support” is mostly a matter of anyone who WANTS to be helpful doing so
   and the people who DON’T finding various reasons to b**ch about the questions
   people ask, that it wouldn’t be any extra skin off anyone’s teeth to ask a question
   here anyway.
