Interfacing Plugin to WordPress Search

Hi anyone have any experiences interface plugin content to WordPress search? Basically I have a plugin that stores data in its own tables. The plugin is shown using WordPress short tags and GET variables. However, I can’t provide the same seamless integration when it comes to searching in WordPress.

I looked at the search everything plugin and it doesn’t support custom tables either. I did find an interim solution by adding filters on posts_where & posts_join. However, I am not able to easily show any correct post excerpt (short of intercepting all calls for every post). Any options short of using google search?
