 * I don’t want to use php mail, and I installed the Postman SMTP plugin so that
   I could use that for outgoing WordPress mail. But MailPoet plugin wants me to
   type in SMTP info. It is not needed, and besides doesn’t work. Through Postman
   SMTP I’ve already created a secure connection with my mailhost. MailPoet just
   isn’t using that it seems! I’m not sure what direction to go now. 🙁 I wish I
   could make this work.

 * Mail poet told me a few months back that they supported SMTP plugins with a minor
   hack. About two weeks ago their support told a user of mine the exact opposite.
 * If you can get a straight answer from them, I would love to hear it 😉

 * Hi Jason, Thanks for the link! I guess I will see about using SendGrid instead.
   Would be nice if MailPoet would accommodate your new plugin; it is receiving
   great reviews! I hope MailPoet will respond to this thread/concern in the near
   future.

 * maybe when I get a few more users they will take notice 😉 already hit 10,000
   in only five months!
 * IMO I think it’s very odd, and rather presumptuous, for a WordPress mail plugin
   to exclude the WordPress mail function as a mailing option.

 * The reason this is important to me is that so far, MailPoet FAILS in allowing
   me to specify a “sent from” email, even with SendGrid in place and functional.
   The “sent from email” is all wrong, and if they cannot correct this issue, I’ll
   be looking for a different newsletter/email app. Sigh. I can’t even tell where
   they are getting the sent from email address. Your app, Postman SMTP, takes care
   of this issue and allows me to specify a delivery email, a reply email, etc.
   Can you recommend an email or newsletter app instead of MailPoet? One that works
   with Postman SMTP?

 * Hi guys,
 * Answering your questions:
 * 1. MailPoet won’t work with SMTP plugins, simple because we don’t use the wp_mail()
   function to send emails. Our PHPMailer library is heavily modified, this is one
   of the reasons we can’t use wp_mail(). Yes, there’s a trick to use it, and it
   might work, but we can’t provide support for you if you use this trick and it
   doesn’t work, okay? This is not “us” being presumptuous, just careful.
 * 2. We recommend SendGrid because we have built-in support for their API. The
   same for ElasticEmail.
 * 3. Yes, you can select your from address, it’s on Step 3 of the newsletter creation
   process.
 * Cool?

 * Thank you for this explanation. Unfortunately, we have been trying to get away
   from “middlemen” in our email process, which is why wp_mail was a very attractive
   option for me. Keeping the process “in-house” just seems to make sense. I prefer
   a plug-in vs. using an outside service when it comes to SMTP. Is there any possible
   benefit to using an outside service like SendGrid or ElasticEmail vs. internal
   WP email functionality?

 * Oh yeah, there is!

 * None of those reasons applies to me, as far as I can tell, since our email list
   is less than 500, we only send emails once a month, and our webhost is TOTALLY
   awesome though not on your list. (You might add WP Engine to that list, if you
   care to.)
