Support » Plugin: W3 Total Cache » Integration with MaxCDN – Error "Unable to resolve hostname"

  • I have went through detailed guides to configure MaxCDN with W3 Total Cache, but I am getting the error “Unable to resolve hostname” when using the “Test NetDNA/MaxCDN” button in W3 Total Cache.

My W3 Total Cache settings are as follows:
    – Alias: my MaxCDN user alias
    – Consumer Key & Secret: what I configured in MaxCDN
    – SSL Support: Auto (I played with the other options but no impact)
    – Replace site’s hostname with:

In the DNS zone for, I have created a CNAME record “dns” pointing to “”.

When using these settings, I am not only getting the error “Unable to resolve hostname” when testing but the website indeed loads in a wrong way (CSS, Javascript, … not correctly loaded).

When I enter “” next to “Replace site’s hostname with” (instead of, it does work. However, I would like to enter multiple cdn subdomains to fully optimize the CDN.

Any idea why it isn’t working? I’d be happy to provide further input. Thanks a lot for your support.

  • I’m also looking to configure MaxCDN on my blog AndroMint, by following the steps mentioned in various sites over the net.

I have configured everything but when I test my CDN, W3 gives an error “Unable to resolve hostname”. What could be the issue? Does the CNAME takes time to replicate?

    Thanks for support.

try make the CNAME same as your bucket name

Hi, I have this same problem. What is a “bucket name”?

I have applied cloudfare CDN to my blog (iDroidSpace), but some times it shows 522 Server error and sometimes ask for the “retry live version”. Can somebody help me out for that problems?
