Newbie here trying to get to grips with WooCommerce and adding a simple shop to my existing WordPress site. Everything in the setup appears fairly straightforward except the WooCommerce shop homepage overrides my existing site homepage which is not good !

I want to add “SHOP” as a menu option on my site and only when “SHOP” is clicked on do I want people to land on the WooCommerce shop landing page.

I can’t work out how to do that as in I can add the menu item on my site but how do I tell WooCommerce settings what to use as the landing page address ?

  • Hi @paul33 ,

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you would like to change the home page to your previous home page, and not the default shop page that is set by WooCommerce, is this correct?

If this is the case, kindly navigate to Dashboard →  Settings →  Reading, and ensure that
Your homepage displays is set to A static page, next select the dropdown by Homepage: and select the page you would like to set as your homepage. Remember to save the changes, and you should be good to go!

    Hope this helps 🙂

Thanks Roxanne but that’s the bit I did manage to work out. What I need now is how do I create my Shop homepage so that I can link it to a menu item on my existing site. I don’t see any option to define the address of my WooCommerce shop homepage so that I can link to it.

    Hi @paul33 ,

    Thanks for providing clarity.

Should you already have an existing Shop page, this specific page can be defined as the Shop page by navigating to WooCommerceSettingsProducts tab → General sub-tab tab. Select the Shop page dropdown, and choose the page you would like to set as your Shop page, as seen in the screenshot below:

Thanks Roxanne ….. I can now link as I wanted to but now I have a further issue !

How do I modify/edit my Shop page ? I have watched videos and looked at instruction pages but they all imply that when I click on edit under the shop page in WordPress, it will open with Gutenberg editor but mine doesn’t. It opens but no sign of Gutenberg.

Am I supposed to download it as a separate plugin ?

The rest of my site within which I am trying to integrate WooCommerce was built with TagDiv Composer as the page editor and any new pages seem to default to that as the optional page developer. Is that why Gutenberg doesn’t appear ?

Any help appreciated once again !

    Hello,

How do I modify/edit my Shop page ? I have watched videos and looked at instruction pages but they all imply that when I click on edit under the shop page in WordPress, it will open with Gutenberg editor but mine doesn’t. It opens but no sign of Gutenberg.

You should be able to edit your shop page from WP-Admin > Pages > [Your shop page]https://snipboard.io/R9qEvX.jpg

If the edit doesn’t look like this, another plugin may be overriding the default functionality. In that case, please temporarily switch your theme back to Storefront and disable all plugins except for WooCommerce. If that resolves the issue, then re-enable plugins one-by-one until you find the one that’s causing the issue.

If you don’t want to test on your live site, you can create a staging site using a plugin called WP Staging: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-staging/

You can find a more detailed explanation on how to do a conflict test here: https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/how-to-test-for-conflicts/
