Intallation meltdown

    HI I just wanted to confirm that I am just one more in line that is having one hell of a time installing this application, (wp 1.01) It didn’t work on:
    1. hosted linux account with root access,
    2. localhost with windows xp, and
    3. localhost with windows 98se all local host use new easyphp 1.7 as a wamp platfrom )
    From what I gathered around this forum I am stuck in the same 1-3 ws-config.php loop.
    I really looked forward to incorporating wp into my next website project but it looks like I will have to go with something more stable…for now…

    Ok I finally got it lol, it took me to vent for a little on this forum to get it to work on my win 98 easyphp configuration…
    I had to edit wp.config.php manualy. But this didn’t work on linux and xp…strange…
    I am getting tired
    I will tackle linux and xp machine tomorrow

    I think the instructions need to be made clearer that the wp-config-install.php script is an optional step, not a requirement.

    Wouldn’t it make more sense to get rid of wp-config-install entirely? All it seems to do is cause problems.

    I ran into major problems as well. I finally got it installed, but without keeping a proper change log. I have no idea exactly what did the trick. Since so many seem to be having difficulty, I hope those who recognize what was needed in their case will share that in their posts. Might have saved me time. I did change to the most recent available nightly build before succeeding.

    I’m sure this has been posted too many times on the WP forums. Where is the secret code to install this thing? Read and followed the instructions. Hit the “404” snag. Manually configured the wp-config-install.php script. Hit the no permissions glitch. I have no idea what to do next except to get out the old typewriter and start pecking on those old but reliable keys again.

    You don’t have permission to access /wordpress-1.0.1-miles/wp-admin/install-config.php/ on this server.
    Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
