• Does anyone know why all my pages display the text %post_title% instead of the actual content of the variable %post_title%?

  • if you mean in the permalink/URL, the term is /%postname% not %post_title%

    if so, update your permalinks Admin / Settings / Permalinks

    Hummm…

    Many thanks for the reply – much appreciated!

    I’ve tried your /%postname% but I still get the same thing. However it’s not the permalinks that’s causing it. I’m using the All in One SEO plugin and it has the follwing options:

    Post Title Format: %post_title%
    The following macros are supported:

    * %blog_title% – Your blog title
    * %blog_description% – Your blog description
    * %post_title% – The original title of the post
    * %category_title% – The (main) category of the post
    * %category% – Alias for %category_title%
    * %post_author_login% – This post’s author’ login
    * %post_author_nicename% – This post’s author’ nicename
    * %post_author_firstname% – This post’s author’ first name (capitalized)
    * %post_author_lastname% – This post’s author’ last name (capitalized)

    Page Title Format: %post_title%
    The following macros are supported:

    * %blog_title% – Your blog title
    * %blog_description% – Your blog description
    * %page_title% – The original title of the page
    * %page_author_login% – This page’s author’ login
    * %page_author_nicename% – This page’s author’ nicename
    * %page_author_firstname% – This page’s author’ first name (capitalized)
    * %page_author_lastname% – This page’s author’ last name (capitalized)

    But it seems whatever I choose the text is never rendered properly and I just get the literal contents of the box displayed in text…

    It looks as though there’s a problem with the plugin.

    Have a look here:

    http://caspianit.co.uk/all-in-one-seo-post_title

    Could anyone confirm me this:
    If my settings are:
    Post Title Format: %post_title%
    Page Title Format: %post_title%
    Google will show the title of the post, correct?

    You can confirm for yourself by looking at the description in the browser title bar, at the upper left corner of the browser window. What you see there is what Google will see – the title tag.

    Well it should do, but there’s been this bug with the All-in-One SEO for ages. Even though AIO-SEO has been updated once every other week the bug remains.

    It *might* be a theme problem but I don’t think so. I think AIO-SEO went a bit wonkey at WordPress 2.8.1

    There’s a better alternative I’ve found called META SEO.

    If you use All in one SEO, you need to set Page Title Format: %page_title%. Your page title will be displayed properly.
