install.php returning error messages

  • I’m getting the following messages when I try to run install.php. I uploaded it via FireFTP, to a register.com hosted site. However, it seems to be necessary to upload to the www directory or the public_html directory for the install.php file to be found at all. When it is found, this is the error message I get:

    Warning: require_once(../wp-load.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/p23l7e40/public_html/install.php on line 18

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘../wp-load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/p23l7e40/public_html/install.php on line 18

    I’m stumped and frustrated at this point. Any help is appreciated.

  • you need to upload all of the files into public_html with the same directory structure as when you unzip it – otherwise it will not work.
    right now, wordpress is looking for stuff in the wrong location and you will never be able to install with install.php in the root
