 * 1. Downloaded and unpacked the tarball
    2. Configured the wp-config.php file
   properly 3. Uploaded all my files to the root directory on my web server 4. I
   navigate to my website and see,” It soesnt look like youve installed WP yet.
   Try running install.php”. “Install.php” is set up as a link, so I click on the
   link and nothing happens, even after I nearly break my mouse clicking it!!! 5.
   So, I navigate to the “wp-admin/installphp” page in my browser. I get the same
   thing. This time when I click on the “install.php” link, it gives me this load
   of crap:
 * Multiple Choices
    The document name you requested (/wp-admin/wp-admin/install.
   php) could not be found on this server. However, we found documents with names
   similar to the one you requested.
 * Available documents:
 *  * /wp-admin/wp-admin.css/install.php (common basename)
 * Please consider informing the owner of the referring page about the broken link.
 * Why is it trying to direct me to (wp-admin/wp-admin)? I never asked for that
   page and it doesnt exist anywhere!
 * Why is it not linking to a page that obviously exists on my server? Is your product
   defective? Because it sounds like it to me!

 * Yes, it’s a defective product that tens of thousands of masochists use for their
   sites every day.
 * Joking aside, I can understand and appreciate your frustration. However, making
   snotty comments on the support forum is not a way to illicit helpful responses.
 * When you uploaded the files to your web server, you ensured that you maintained
   the existing folder/directory and file structure?
 * Have you indeed confirmed that during the upload, some files didn’t accidentally
   get lost in the transfer?

   of times to make sure.

 * Is there something that suppose to be loaded into my actual database?

 * No, not yet…
 * Just to check:
    – files unzipped into 4 folders and several files ? – files uploaded
   as ASCII ? – how are you confirming their presence is correct ? – you are using
   the browser to navigate to /install.php ?

 * -Yes. I have 4 folders (wp-admin, wp-content, wp-images, wp-includes) and 27
   loose files.
 * -Im using an FTP GUI to upload the files to my server. In other words Im uploading
   the files from a directory on my machine to its place on my webhosts server,
   just as I would upload regular html pages. If they need to be uploaded in ASCII
   format……I dont even know how to go about doing that. None of the documentation
   specified such, I only read to upload “all files” to my web server.
 * -I can physicaly view all the files that have been uploaded to my server in a
   number of ways, all of which confirm that a precise copy of the files that I
   have downloaded as the .zipped files for this particular application are present.
   I have a GUI to view my files on, I also have a regular file manager. Believe
   me….they are there.
 * -Yes, I have tried to navigate to the various pages using Mozillas Firefox, Microsofts
   Internet Explorer, and a Linux Specific browser called Konqueror, on three seperate
   machines.
 * Thanks for the reply
 * -“forgive me if I sound a little froward, but when I view the source coding of
   the page where the link to “install.php” resides, I notice that the link is coded`
   <a href='wp-admin/install.php'>.` Now if Im not mistaken, shouldnt that link
   be surrounded by “” instead of ”? Do you think that it would help if I could
   locate this page and change that html coding? Just wandering
 * thanks agian

 * This wierd……..I’m used to database connection problems – seeing the file right
   now should be easy.
 * Okay….this may sound very very dumb but it’s helped in the past.
    If you upload
   an image to the /wp-admin directory, can you then see that image in your browser
   if you point the browser directly at it ?

 * I cant see the image, but if I point my browser directly to the image it asks
   me if I want to download it. Im using Firefox, so any downloads come up in a
   download manager that asks if I want to download it or not.
 * If it helps my site url is: [http://www.researchphenixcity.com](http://www.researchphenixcity.com)
 * The image is in: [http://www.researchphenixcity.com/wp-admin/picture2.tif](http://www.researchphenixcity.com/wp-admin/picture2.tif)
 * Its one of the Huygens Titan photos. If I point my browser to this specific url
   it tries to download the image. And please, dont think your sounding dumb. Whats
   dums is that Im a skilled pc tech, with a good bit of experience in web design,
   and I cant figure this out……..lol
 * I more than appreciate your help and your responses. The issue isnt resolved
   yet, but I thank you for all of your time. You could be doing better things than
   trying to help someone you dont even know.

   something or dont have something installed that I need. Thanks for all your help

 * I need to jump into on this, because I’m having a very similar problem. I uploaded
   the WP folder, renamed as “blog”, to my host server. Going to [http://www.websitename.ca/blog/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.websitename.ca/blog/wp-admin/install.php)
   brings up this message “t doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running
   install.php.” When I click the link, I get this URL: [http://www.websitename.ca/blog/wp-admin/wp-admin/install.php](http://www.websitename.ca/blog/wp-admin/wp-admin/install.php).
   I tried the load the photo to the wp-admin folder thing and I can access the
   just fine.
 * (The host I use lists its versions of mySQL as 3.23.58 and of PHP of 4.3.1, which
   meets the requirements for WordPress.)
 * I’ve tried reloading the WP folder to the server and get the same problem.

 * Update: my problem is solved and it was a service provider issue. A tip: when
   your provider says they support all the WordPress requirements, ask them if they
   support them on the server your stuff is on.

 * I’m having a problem also – even now in 1/06
 * <?php
    // ** MySQL settings ** // define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘blog_journeyzing_com’); //
   The name of the database define(‘DB_USER’, ‘dbm.journeyzing.com’); // Your MySQL
   username define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘*******’); // …and password define(‘DB_HOST’,‘
   sqlc0e.megasqlservers.com’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value
 * I was able to get my HL blog set up fine at that site, same server and same specs,
   and worked with it then I went in and did the rewording of the config file and
   renamed it too and uploaded that also to the JZ site but no go = it says error
   404 that wp-admin/install.php is not on the server….but I checked twice and it
   is

 * update = I went in, deleted the old WP on website and started fresh. Double checked
   the database name, user, password and host address to be sure right. My hosting
   people say = ” the actual MySQL DB Host. It is sqlc0e.megasqlservers.com” so
   I put the name in the host area [which worked fine with the other website I’m
   working with a few hours ago]. So, I made sure the definitions were all right,
   changed the name from sample to the regular, did a re-upload via Cyberduck just
   fine. Went in to check and it still won’t load –
    The requested URL /wp-admin/
   install.php was not found on this server.
 * the file has been renamed correctly and uploaded and the name, password etc.
   are all correct…any more thoughts? The thing that was difficult was that I thought
   it would work because I just got my other one up and working just fine, taking
   the same steps [they are both at same host]
