  • This is what I get when I go to /wp-admin/install.php:
Error establishing a database connection! This probably means that the connection information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect. Double check it and try again.
Are you sure you have the correct user/password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?

    Hi,
So, what exactly was it? I keep getting the error, and I’ve been fighting it for a couple of days now. I’m assuming I’m missing something basic. Can you pin down what exactly you were doing wrong?
I’ve created the database, I’ve added a couple of users to it for the sake of trying something else. I’ve edited the config file, I believe correctly, yet nothing seems to help. Once we create the config file, we initiate the program via a browser right? So I’ve been configuring the file then going to my broser and typing in

Any and all variations of this returns the same error.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

That’s the address you need to go to in order to start the install, but that shows an error.
If you have a cpanel or any other sort of frontend for your site, check that the proper connection to the database is ‘localhost’ – there should be something there to indicate how to connect.
It’s a case of working through the possible errors one by one…..

    Hello Team,
Ok, I finally figured it out. And it was a very simple problem. I removed the leading spaces from the variables in the config file and everything worked great!
Amazing installation and software you guys. Good job!
In the future, someone put “you may have to remove leading spaces from the variables” in the docs.” Just for the relatively inexperienced like me.
