I didn’t download the program quite yet, I’m waiting to see what I find out from whatever helpful person decides to answer my question. You probably already understand what I am asking, is this possible? is it a good idea? Do others do it? What is involved, or what in particular should I know to do this? You see I would like to be able to post/work on my blog at work as well as at home (silly me for wanting to do non work related stuff at work! right?!) A good answer will be much appreciated!

  • You don’t really understand the concept of wordpress. What wordpress is a piece of software that runs on a server and you access the software through your web browser to post and admin the site. You only have to install wordpress once and then if you register a domain name you can access your blog from any where. Have a look here if you need a web host.

    Greetz, me again!

Essentially, if you download the software, put it up on hosting and install it, that’s all you need to do.

Wherever you have an internet connection, no matter what PC/MAC you are using you will be able to get to your wordpress install and post/blog.

What do you mena by “work” on it?

Anything you want to do on the blogging side can be done online. If you want to do things like upload plugins, change themes etc then it will depend on your work and if they have blocked things like FTP access. There are ways round it but I don’t like them as they are (in my mind) not secure to the rest of the ‘net.

ahhh, I’ve only just started and I love the wordpress forums, you guys quick to respond! I’m starting to come to grips with the idea of wordpress thanks to you guys, understanding is happening here. When I say work, I do mean the things that you referred to as well as things like putting a photoshop/illustrator created banner (and any other ways of customizing the look of my page that I may think of) onto my pages. I’m guessing that I will figure out how to do that somewhere along the way in the process of setting things up with the assumption that the program will have a way to do things of that sort. On that note I would appreciate any quick tips you might have involving that.

The first thing to do is find a domain name that you’re happy with and get some hosting. Download the software and get it installed and running. get used to the feel of wordpress, read the Documentation (http://codex.wordpress.org/Main_Page) and not get too daunted by it!

    Then start playing! :o)
