Support » Installing WordPress » Installing WordPress locally for a rookie help?

  • I am getting stuck here “With your browser the instructions to install WordPress.”

Every time I type that into my browser it sends me to google search engine about local hosts and when I actually drop the file into my browser I get this error “WordPress requires that your web server is running PHP. Your server does not have PHP installed, or PHP is turned off.”

I am running xampp and my php is indeed running. I am at a loss.

    any ideas?

  • If I get you currently, you are trying to run your website on a local machine using XAMP but it’s not working.

May I ask if you have turned on your XAMP Server and ensure it is running?

Install the free https://localwp.com. It’s a one-click-ish solution to locally installing WP. Use this instead of XAMPP.

Your issue probably isn’t with XAMPP, it’s probably with how you’re trying to run WordPress. Don’t try to drop files into your browser; instead, type a URL, which may be something like http://localhost. And as mentioned, you should go to the XAMPP control panel and make sure MySQL and Apache are running.

FWIW, based on my own experience, LocalWP doesn’t play nice on Windows-based systems. If your system is something else, then never mind. 🙂

Considering I think you’re trying get WP up and running on a Windows environment.

Whether possible I’d recommend to you to remake the steps described in this fresh article:

    https://wpgiz.com/install-wordpress-on-xampp/

I meant, try to remake a WP install from scratch. Maybe some step would have been forgot on the previous attempt.
