 * We are really happy to announce the arrival of a new service – the installing
   of WordPress for free.
    No need to offer money, no need to worry about trusting
   your details and no need to worry about the job being left incomplete. We will
   do it for nothing.
 * There is more information on our blog: [http://install4free.wordpress.com](http://install4free.wordpress.com)
 * Right now there is a team of 10 of us. We all have extensive experience with
   WordPress, we all have given our time and expertise in the [http://wordpress.org/support](http://wordpress.org/support)
   forums and we all not only trust each other but we are trusted by our peers.
 * You want WordPress? You got it 🙂
 * Tell people!
 * (note: installing, not hosting)

 * In as much as this sounds like a good idea, I think the installation of WP (and
   just installation) is largely a pain free process and a good one for any budding
   blogger/web-admin to do themselves.
 * For the fact that you don’t disclose any names of the “volunteers”, it is hard
   for anyone to feel safe to give you their login information.
 * My $0.02.

 * The number of posts here regarding installation attests to a need.
 * There are people who would use WP but the install might be stopping them.
 * The names? There ia at least one link there to follow which can let you do the
   maths. Read the ‘Who is running this’ page.
 * Matt is perfectly aware of this, as are people on the forums mailing list and
   the hackers mailing list where it has been discussed. this is not about personalities,
   it’s about a service.

 * I’ve been a part of all the “development” of this idea in the forums mailing
   list – none of this has been set up secretly, none of it is for any other reason
   than to help people get over the hump of the install. (And yes, there are people
   getting stuck on “Step Two”)
 * Side note: If this weren’t supported by WordPress and the developers, the link
   up there wouldn’t be pointing to a subdomain of wordpress.com! I highly doubt
   that Matt would allow something like this if he weren’t able to trust those involved,
   and willing to put the very nature of “his name” on it.
 * Not for nothing, but I think the wariness you appear to have is for naught…

 * I firmly believe in the idea that people should try to do something by themselves
   and seek any and all help they can get from others who’ve already gone through
   similar things so that they can learn themselves.
 * You say you don’t explain the installation process, that you just do it and let
   it be. In as much as that can be complicated for some, the customization of the
   blog that inevitably comes after is even more so. And people who don’t have a
   clue as to the layout of files and things as such will have an extra hard time.
 * There is nothing wrong is trying something out, stumbling parhaps, seeking help
   and learning how to get things done.
 * If you offered a full-fledged service that not only included installation, but
   installation of themes and plugins and most importantly explained the whole process
   step by step to your “customer”, then I would say there is a lot of value.
 * If people just want to blog without having to worry about the intracasies of
   maintaining their own domain and the software that runs on it, there are enough
   services out there for that. But when they take the role of being their own webmaster,
   I just think they should go all the way and not half-ass it.
 * P.S., and oh I’m not really concerned about whether this is a ratified thing
   as far as Matt or others go, I’m just more thinking along the lines of “teach
   them to fish…”, if you know what I mean..

 * I sort of agree with you Cyber, the teach to fish thing that is. When I offer
   advice here, I purposely avoid offering cut and paste solutions. I try to get
   the person to understand the problem better, so they can come up with the solution
   themselves as much as possible.
 * If you can’t handle installing wordpress, I personally recommend wordpress.com
   or similar such services. But having said that, time will tell if this offer
   is ultimately useful to some people. If it sets them up to fail in the future,
   that will become apparent. If it gets them going, so they can then take more
   time to learn the rest, that will show itself too. I hope it’s successful though.
   At worst, it’s an interesting experiment. At best, it turns out to be darn helpful!

 * I couldn’t agree more with the above two posts.
 * Installing WP isn’t rocket science and it’s skills that anyone running WordPress
   should learn. I mean, once they get it installed, they’ll still have to install
   themes, plugins, etc.
 * And yeah, if you can’t handle installing it, WordPress.com is the way to go.

 * I agree there. After all, aren’t just about all WP installations going to have
   some theme “tinkering” and some plugin installation? Who does that?
 *  [carho219](https://wordpress.org/support/users/carho219/)
 * (@carho219)

 * If everyone that gets stuck installing WordPress uses this service, then the
   incentive to make WordPress easier to install and maintain will diminish. Because
   if no one seeks help on the support-forums for the basics like installing, changing
   themes etc. the developers won’t know what to fix/improve.
 * As a community we shouldn’t encourage people to give out their passwords to anyone,
   even a service, unless some sort of guarantee is provided (or compensation if
   the passwords are compromised).
 * A better idea would be if the group that has started this service would work
   with making WordPress even easier to install, improve documentation, write up
   guides etc. This would improve the community as a whole instead of just “helping”
   a few people.

 * My 2 cents is that (even if I needed this) I wouldn’t touch this with a bargepole
   because there are no names mentioned.
 * Should you give your name and password to a complete stranger on the internet…

 * To all the above:
 * You have the exclusive use of the Installation forum.
    It’s yours, all yours.
 * Go on then, teach. Every single day.
    I look forward to it.

 * You lot really are incapable of following links to mailing lists and putting
   the numbers 1 and 1 together aren’t you?

 * Just 2 cents- I’ve been having installation issues, and posted all the details
   that are available, and have seen no solution or familiarity with the problem(
   a problem apparently 3 or more of us have). Despite this, and no logs or error
   messages or any way to even start troubleshooting, I’d prefer working this out
   with the help of fellows on this list…unless carho’s recommendation were considered
   and the purpose was to take information from this experience to fix bugs or to
   improve installation guidance for others.
