# Installing upgrades

 * I just wiped my entire blog and discarded it’s corrupted database (after harvesting
   out as much of the original text as possible.) Then I reinstalled a backwards
   version of WP from a Plesk Aps file, and encountered the same problem that lead
   to my upgrade last time around; my posts are in backward order due to some MySQL
   bug.
 * I’d love to upgrade, ’cause this backwards blog thing is a waste of disk space,
   but my question is how? Last time I clicked on something, somewhere on a page
   that installed verion 2.3.2 for me. But I can’t remember how I got there now.
 * Any ideas?
 * I tried replacing the wp files via ftp, I get nada, nothing, no more blog, no
   more login screens. It’s like my connection to the database is broken. About
   the only thing the local host support can help me with is reinstalling the last
   saved (backward) version; They don’t DO WP.
 * Can anyone help me with this?

 * All I can suggest is to back up your database and then follow the install instructions
   for 2.3.3. Pay attention to which files you should keep – but your version is
   a long way back. I don’t know where you can find a button to push that will install
   it for you.
 * If you get an error, which you will if the database is broken, post it here for
   additional help.
 * Oh, you might consider a different host.

 * Here is a easy install for 2.3.3. I haven’t tried it but I think it should work
   fine.

 * I went into the ftp folder WordPress. I deleted all of the old files, I added
   all of the new ones from 2.3.2 folder I check and double checked the information
   in a wp_config.php file was correct. I deleted everthing in cache. no plugins
   on.
 * Still I get this message from my browser “Safari can’t open the page “http://
   rwbjv.org/WordPress/” because it could not load any data from this location.”
   Opera won’t open, Firefox won’t open. NOTHING. I can’t login, I can’t see squat
   other than readme that goes nowhere.
 * Nothing opens. It’s like NOTHING IS THERE! I don’t have time for this! I’ve tried
   to reconnect my database with my folder before with no results. Is this some
   sort of evil Plesk trick?
 * What is going ON!!!

 * Maybe you should not use Plesk and use a standard FTP program. As far as I can
   tell, you are missing some files or your permissions are incorrect.
 * Try putting a test index.html file into your WordPress folder. Can you see that?
   If so, you should be able to see the index.php if it is there.

 * I stayed up until 2:30 messing with this and I was just so tired and fed-up with
   the whole thing. It just doesn’t make any sense.
 * I used a standard ftp program to install the WP 2.3.2 files. I believe that the
   last time I tried to use Plesk to install the upgrade, it didn’t work that way
   either, but I might try again. I can view plain html files in the WordPress folder,
   but I can’t view any php files—for example, readme.html opens, but the links
   don’t work.
 * Yeah, index.php should load the header (and all) but it doesn’t.
    and I can’t
   get an admin login screen either. I can’t open any php in the browser (except
   in source view).
 * I guess I have to do a new install via ftp and start a new blog. If that doesn’t
   work then I’ll try doing the same install from scratch using Plesk. If that doesn’t
   work, I’ll have to assume that the ISP/Plesk is messing this up. I can get WP
   installed from the Aps directory, but its that old backwards-broken version of
   WP.
    The local host told me Id have to go get the upgrade (myself), but that
   doesn’t seem to work worth pish.

 * I can’t start a new blog to test. Only one database allowed by the ISP and it
   is in use by another Ap. (The blog that can’t find it). I tried to use PhpMyAdmin
   one more time to join the db and the blog URL, but that just doesn’t work.
 * If I call the ISP tech guy one more time, he’ll probably scream at me before
   I get a chance to scream at him about this mess.

 * You can have more blogs in one database… You should read the intructions BEFORE
   just jumping into doing things!

 * p.s. Accroding to this:
    [http://rwbjv.org/WordPress/wp-content/themes/default/style.css](http://rwbjv.org/WordPress/wp-content/themes/default/style.css)
   your files are there – just something went wrong during the upgrade/install…
   it shows only a blank page. You may want to search for “blog blank page” and
   similar keywords.

 * Regarding multiple databases, I can’t run the installation from new versions
   of WP that I have uploaded via FTP. Nothing happens.
 * I seem only able to install the buggy old WP version that displays posts in backwards
   order (oldest on top; newest at the bottom of the page).

 * ISP allowed me to set up new database
    I installed thenew wp 2.3.3 and changed
   the folder name to avoid confusion with the old WordPress folder with faulty
   attachment to the old database. Open up new wp-config-sample.php and changed
   to wp-config.php entered the new database name. entered the new db login & pass
 * Went back to the readme.html
 * Opened /wp-admin/install.php in the browser. Could see some setup activity on
   bottombar — I assume it was setting up the tables needed for the blog. Nothing
   happened
 * GOT: “If there is an error, double check your wp-config.php file, and try again.
   If it fails again, please go to the support forums with as much data as you can
   gather.”
 * Double checked the config.php
 * Went to PhpMyAdmin.
 * found this: “wbjv_db (0) “
    “No tables found in database.”
 * “MySQL client version: 4.1.20”
 * It looks as if the install.php cannot access the database if I do the install
   via ftp.

 * meh, no.. that has nothing to do with it, I assure you.
 * Something that you are doing isnt right, but thats not it. WordPress doesnt care
   how the files get there, just that they are.
 * Im willing to take a shot at installing it for you if you like.. If so contact
   me off-list at whoo -AT- whoo.org
 * I would need your ftp info, and your mysql info.
 * Its up to you, no harm if you dont want the help.

 * I wonder if the legacy Frontpage files in the root directory, place by a previous
   web-manager, are causing problems? I don’t want to go removing the old stuff
   willi-nilly, but if files like vti_bin and vti_if.html might be a problem, I
   could trash them, as I use Dreamweaver / bbedit.
 * Also kmessinger had a tip about an addition to the .htaccess file “SeFilterInheritance
   Off” when addressing another issue like mine.
    There is legacy script about frontpage
   in that file as well:
 * # -FrontPage-
 * IndexIgnore .htaccess */.??* *~ *# */HEADER* */README* */_vti*
 * <Limit GET POST>
    order deny,allow deny from all allow from all </Limit> <Limit
   PUT DELETE> order deny,allow deny from all </Limit>
 * Is there anything here I should delete?

 * Solution found. The host sysop found following fix:
    [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/157336](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/157336)
   I’d never have found this error in the code on my own.
