i just installed a local version of wp. I have a firewall on my server, and after the install, when i tried to access the site, the firewall poped up and warned that my apache tried to access this ip address: 72.233.56.138 Looking it up, it belongs to LAYERED TECHNOLOGIES INC in Plano, TX. What it tried to send there, I don't know, but perhaps someone should look into this, and everyone should think about it before installing this thing.

I do not believe that this is spyware, but more than likely your wordpress installation was accessing wordpress.org which is hosted on the IP address 72.233.56.138.

If you think about your wordpress installation though local will still access wordpress.org for blog updates in the dashboard as well as finding new plugins and themes. This okay and there is no spyware involved.
