Installing Network with Sub-directories on a subdomain (2 posts)

I have a clean/empty blog installation on http://blogs.example.com and wish to extend WP to Network with sub-folders like this:

The installation works, kind of. The problem is that I cannot login to wp-admin.

http://blogs.example.com/wp-admin does not log me in, just redirects me to the login window with no messages

http://blogs.example.com/blog/wp-admin does however work, and I can login. However when posting/creating/saving and stuff, it redirects me to http://blogs.example.com/wp-admin and I get logged out.

This feels like a bug of sorts. Is there a hack or solution for this? Or have I done something wrong?

  2. Did you install WordPress in a subfolder under blogs?

That is, I know subdomains work like this:
I install in /public_html/subdomainname/<files> and it shows up in http://subdomainname.example.com

If I put the files in /public_html/subdomainname/blog then they would show up in http://subdomainname.example.com/blog

If you did THAT, then WordPress has to run out of http://subdomainname.example.com/blog (you can't redirect it to http://subdomainname.example.com )
