Support » Networking WordPress » Installing multisite – 'Network' does not show on menu

  • Resolved mished

I’ve just installed WP 3.1.2. Now what I want to do is to create sub-sites (eg,, etc

Now the first step to this is to insert define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true); in the wp-config.php so that ‘Network’ will appear on the Tools tab. But this isn’t happening.
I’ve checked and rechecked: this line of code is in the right place in that file. But ‘Network’ does not appear on the TOOLS tab.

Any ideas how I should fix this?

  • Two things:

It looks like you may have fancy quotes on that define. Make sure the define has straight quotes (ex. define( 'WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE', true ); ).

Also make sure that the define is above the /* That's all, stop editing! Happy blogging. */ line.

    Thanks, Tim.

No, I had no fancy quotes. But I finally found my silly mistake: I wrote it as define(‘WP_ALLOW MULTISITE’, true); instead of define(‘WP_ALLOW_MULTISITE’, true); (ie missing underscore between ALLOW and MULTISITE.

    This is all fixed now.
