• Hello,

I have been trying to install Jetpack but kept getting an error message saying it was already installed. When I looked into the issue I read a thread that suggested going into my websites hosting page and deleting Jetpack in the control panel. I did this then successfully reinstalled jetpack. When I went to activate it I received the following error message.

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare class Jetpack in /home3/andybarton/public_html/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/class.jetpack.php on line 25

I would love to finally install Jetpack. If anyone can point me in the right direction I would be very grateful.

    Kind Regards,

    Andy.

It does indeed sound like Jetpack is already installed on your site, most likely via another directory.

Could you make sure that there is no other Jetpack folder under wp-content/plugins or wp-content/mu-plugins in your WordPress installation?

Let me know how it goes.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thank you for replying to my message. I have now deleted everything Jetpack under WP-Content/plugins in my Hostgator account.

    Should I now reinstall Jetpack?

    Regards,

    Andy.

Yes, you should now be able to reinstall Jetpack by going to Plugins > Add New in your dashboard, and searching for “Jetpack”.

    Hi Jeremy,

I tried again and the same error message came up. The folder Jetpack still remains in the sidebar but I have deleted all its contents.

    Could it be the JP-CUSTOM-CSS?

    Regards,

    Andy.

Yes, that could definitely be it; you don’t need that plugin since its features are already part of Jetpack.

    Hi Jeremy,

Wouldn’t I lose my page if I delete the custom CSS?

    Kind regards,

    Andy.

You can copy the CSS before you deactivate and delete the plugin, and paste it under Appearance > Customize > Additional CSS in your dashboard.
