# Installing a plugin – "Could not create directory" error

 * Hi all,
 * Recently some of the plugins on my website [http://oakleighmanor.com](http://oakleighmanor.com)
   have stopped working. I had the ‘All in One SEO’ plugin used to rewrite title
   tags, metedescriptions, etc but it has stopped working for some reason…
 * I have tried to install the Yoast SEO plugin, but am getting the following error;
 * “Installing Plugin: WordPress SEO by Yoast 1.6
 * Downloading install package from [https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.6.zip…](https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wordpress-seo.1.6.zip…)
 * Unpacking the package…
 * Could not create directory.”
 * The theme used on the site isn’t fully compatible with the new WordPress but 
   I wouldn’t have thought that would effect plugin installation?
 * The site ranks extremely well and is very important to the business, we need 
   to fix this asap so any help would be much appreciated.
 * Edit: I have also tried to add the plugin via FTP (FileZilla) but that didn’t
   work either ; “Response: 553 Could not create file.
    Error: Critical file transfer
   error” 154 files failed to transfer..
