Title: Installing Last modified: August 19, 2016 --- # Installing * Resolved [Cherie Neilson](https://wordpress.org/support/users/cherie-neilson/) * (@cherie-neilson) * [15 years, 7 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/installing-4/) * Hi, James (MacManX) Sent me a Tutorial on installing Xampp and WordPress I read this (3 Times) I am still not sure, a real sooky la la, as I am really new to all this, so do all the reading I can but this is above me, though I want to do this.James if you do get to read this thank you for sending me the tutorial, but after reading a lot of the installation info I came across Microsoft Web Platform it said to download this and I can download WordPress and all is ok. Is this secure to do this? sounds like lots have done it this way. My next problem is how much memory and space do I need as my computer is 6-8 years old with lots of hard work over this time and not much physical memory (103.41MB) left, virtual memory is at 1.96GB had it to its doc and he can not put any more memory in so some time in the future looks like a new one. it also said I need a Text editor program, not to use Microsoft Word can I download a program from here? maybe I need an idiots guide. many thanks. Not everyone has the same technical chops, just like not everyone can draw (you would laugh at my work). * If you’re going to install WordPress on your own, either onto your web-server or onto your PC, there’s an assumed level of technical savvy. That you know what things are, or how to look them up. * Can Microsoft Web Platform work? Sure. But be warned, not a lot of people here know how to support it. * You don’t need to download a text editor. Windows has notepad built in (though I’d suggest NotePad++ instead. it’s free!) * What’s a host? That’s the people who run your webserver.
