    This is *very* helpful…thanks for detailed view.
    I write user documentation and have done many installation guides and try to include as much detail as possible.
    Question: is it possible to add a screen capture showing exactly how the finished config.php file should look before uploading it to the site? It would help me and based on what I’ve seen in this forum, others as well.

    That would be difficult due to the number of ways a database name and the ‘localhost’ can be written, and a screenshot may imply that a certain way is right and so confuse someone who needs to do it differently due to their host.
    That said, if your experience suggests something, get in touch and we’ll see what we can do ?

    Here are my settings, pulled from my config file (with modified info so as not to give away all the goods). Does this look correct? Still can’t get this going. What am I doing wrong? Note that where dbname or dbuser is my user name, based on the way my hosting service works/how its set up in MySQL.
    // ** MySQL settings ** //
    define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘dbname_mydbasename’); // The name of the database
    define(‘DB_USER’, ‘dbuser_myusername’); // Your MySQL username
    define(‘DB_PASSWORD’, ‘dbpass_password’); // …and password
    define(‘DB_HOST’, ‘localhost’); // 99% chance you won’t need to change this value

    the database name and the database username must be the same at that given to you by the host.
    Are you using Cpanel?
    How was the database created?

    As an example, the working wp-config.php I use is here:

    My real database name and user name are the same (even though I did not do that in the previous example). . Created in Cpanel -> MySQL. user name added to the database. In other words, what you did in the CarThik/MyConfig example are exactly what I’ve done on several tries.

    anon, come on over to #wordpress on if you chat on IRC, and I will guide you through this in realtime.
