I’ve carried out a fresh install of 3.0.3 and set up the database. I can access the site http://www.rmweb.co.uk/showcase but I cannot access the Site Admin areas either from the link on the index page nor directly by using the url for /wp-admin/

In Chrome I get a “This web page is not available.” message and a blank page in Firefox.

I’ve tried to search for assistance and can see most of the problems relate to urls (which shouldn’t be an issue here); I’ve worked through http://codex.wordpress.org/Login_Trouble and either everything’s as it should be and editing the user tables has made no difference.

I’d be grateful for any guidance other than packing it back in the box. πŸ™‚

    Many thanks,

I just checked and I can get to the log in screen. Are you getting a log in screen?

Thanks Josh, I can log in and gshow as logged in at http://www.rmweb.co.uk/showcase but when I click on Site Admin I get a blank page.

I’ve tried another install of the software onto the server and setup a different database (amending the config file as appropriate) with the same result. I’ve tried different permissions on the files/folders too without success.

Try (if you already have not tried):

-deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually to find the culprit.

If you don’t have access to your admin area, try deactivating them manually via FTP or phpMyAdmin.

-switching to the default theme (“twentyten”) for a moment by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

If you don’t have access to your admin area, then access your server via FTP or SFTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    Thanks t-p.

I’d previously removed all files from the /plugins folder with no difference detected.

I’ve checked and the only theme in the folder is /twentyten.

Is there any software or settings serverside that’s likely to cause such a problem?

see if this codex guide helps you:

Thanks t-p. As per the 1st post I worked through that too.

I’ve tried a completely fresh download of 3.0.3, installed onto server, created new database, run through install setup. I still have the same problem, the index page displays fine but I can’t get into the admin area again.

This is the wp-config.php file (edited with * for display here).

Any problems in there anyone can see?

    RMweb,
It’s hard to tell from what you pasted, but check to see if there are extra spaces at the beginning and end of that file. By the way, forum rules are that you should use wordpress.pastebin.com to share any code longer than a few lines. A moderator might remove what you’ve pasted here at some point.
Here’s another thing to check, either through your cpanel or look for an error log through FTP. There might be an error message there.
Another possibility is to check with your hosting provider.

Thanks Josh, obviously note familiar with the protocols for cide; I just used the tags given. Anyway, there are no spaces other than provided in the config_sample file and nothing shows up in the error logs on the server.

I’ll check with the host but is there anything in particular he should be checking for?

I’ve tried completely fresh installs of 3.0.4 against new databases and I still cannot get past this problem.

Just thought I’d try a bump out of desperation.

After consultation with my host this problem was caused by having suhosin installed on the server.

ok RMweb…. did you solved the problem eventually ? Cause i have the same problem.

Fresh install of WP 3.0.4 . I can see the index and the sample data(wich comes with fresh install) but after I log in to http://www.datz.ro/wp-admin i get a white blank page.

How can i solve this problem ?
