Installed blog redirects to "install" 404 not found

I migrated my blog to a new server, disabled multisite and successfully ran the database upgrade script. Now I get an error when I access the blog URL where it redirects to “/install/” and reports a 404 not found. The blog is in fact installed and I can access wp admin no problems. I have removed the .htaccess file, I cannot figure out what is causing this redirection.
