• I use City Guide theme by AIT, and tried to update their newest version 2.73, but have a big problem on the installation. When new version is activated, the wp dashboard does not load, and users cannot login, the wp-admin goes to a white screen. I tried to deactivate plugins, but nothing seems to fix the problem. Hosting company says the theme software is not compatible with the website, but I am not sure, as it was running okay prior to the update. Anyone else find a problem with City Guide? Any tips to fix the problem would be very much appreciated.

Since that is a commercial theme, we ask that you please go to their official support channel, so you can get support from the people who know it best.

Forum volunteers are also not given access to commercial products, so they would not know why it is not working properly. Other community members who may have faced your issue might be able to help you but your best bet is your product’s developer. Keep in mind we encourage you to use the official support venues, as it allows the developers to be aware of issues with their code and gives back to the community in a more robust way.

Yes, Jamees. Totally understand your suggestion, and actually have already contacted the theme developers to inform them of this problem, but unfortunately have not received a reply for a day or two, and hence, our site is locked up. I trust you can appreciate my concerns. I am hoping there is a volunteer or person in the forum who might have some experience or knowledge with AIT or City Guide and could offer a tip. I will definitely follow up with the forum if the developer offers any support to fix this problem.

Ah, if it’s still locked up now, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme.

This will force the default theme to activate, so you’ll be able to use your site again.

Right on James, we had already cleared the bad theme, and accessed wp dashboard with a default theme, but the problem is all the content, widgets, slider, items, payment plugins, etc that are essential to the website do not run on a default theme, so either we have to run the default theme and post site “under repair” or get locked out of dashboard, but show the site with City Guide, but unable to update content, posts, etc. It is a mess, but hopefully the developer or somebody out there can figure a solution. An interesting point for you to consider. I installed the new City Guide on a wp site I have on another hosting company, and it actually worked and the wp dashboard would load properly. Go figure. Anyone have any tips on this issue?

Do you have a backup of the older theme, or an earlier backup of your site itself?

    yes

Ok, take that old backed up copy of the theme, and just upload it via FTP or SFTP to /wp-content/themes/

Then, you should be able to activate it and use it without issue, just don’t update it until you hear back from there support.
