Attempting to set up a local host on my Mac using WP 4.5.3 and MAMP, but can’t launch the installation.
Wordpress keeps throwing the ‘error establishing database connection’ message on /wp-admin/install.php. I checked the configuration of wp-config.php (database, username, password and localhost) and tried different preferences for ports in MAMP too (both default MAMP and 80/306).

Possibly missing a rookie step – can anyone guide me in the right direction?

  • Hi,

In phpMyadmin you need to create a database.

    In WordPress install page

    Enter your database name
    username is root
    password is root
    host should be localhost.

    Thank you.

    Hi Denzel,

Thanks for the advise – I did all that prior to this post. Seems there was an issue with my config file which I fixed by going through the WP admin to create it. Was resolved easily.

    Thanks

    You are welcome!
    Thank you.
