Here are the steps I used to get this working:
1. Log into your OpenX account and navigate to the Inventory Tab.
2. Click on “Zones” in the left menu.
3. Select the website you want to host the ads to then add a new zone.
4. After creating the zone, or if you already have a list of created zones, locate the zone id by hovering over the zone’s link and a link path should appear in the bottom left of your browser. The last bit of the link should read “zoneid=12345678”. This is the zone’s id. There may be an easier way of getting the zone ID but I couldn’t find one and this worked for me.
5. Go back to your WordPress dashboard and install the openX wordpress Widget.
6. Add the widget to the sidebar and enter the zone ID you obtained in step 4. Each widget instance should have a unique zone ID.
Save and refresh your website’s page.
