 * Hi,
 * I’m trying to get WP up and running and I asked my brother to do it from his
computer as I’m on the road and lack decent wifi. He bought the bluehost stuff
and downloaded WP then ran the install. I got all the emails from MOJO and WP,
but the links take me to my current site (.com/wp-admin).
 * Problem is, I want to modify the theme, CSS, etc and then export my posts into
my new site while still working over at .com for a bit.
 * My brother seems to think that there’s an issue and I’m the farthest things from
techie so I am clueless. Coding stuff doesn’t make sense to me, please don’t
start spouting ftp stuff because I don’t even know what that is. I thought WP
was a one-click install but this is beyond frustrating.

 * If you already have a domain name working somewhere else, that domain will eventually
have to be re-pointed to the BlueHost servers and then cPanel assigned to your
new installation in order for it to land there. If you have a new domain name
at your BlueHost account, that new domain name is likely the one that currently
lands at your new installation. If you are not willing and able to learn about
cPanel, “FTP stuff” and at least some basic webmastering — adding security needs
to be your first order of business — you really should not be trying to have
   a self-hosted site.

 * I always see bloggers unveiling “new” sites so I do know this is doable without
   shutting down my current site.
 * I’m okay to learn it all but I am clueless now. What do you mean by re-pointed?

 * +2 for [@leejosepho](https://wordpress.org/support/users/leejosepho/)
    totally
   agree with your opinion

the first thing you need to know is to use ftp. Or you won’t be able to get your
site back if you make a mistake editing PHP code and crash. That’s when you see
   a white screen.

 * Your new BlueHost account either might or might not already have what BlueHost
knows as a Primary Domain. If it does, then ‘myBlueHostDomain.com’ (for example)
should already be landing at your new installation…and if you have to use ‘myBlueHostDomain.
com/wordpress’ to get there, then BlueHost has a special way to leave your installation
right where it is and not have to use ‘/wordpress’ as part of the address without
having to edit anything within WordPress…

 * As to repointing: That is what you would do if you want to move a domain from
wordpress.com servers to your BlueHost server, for example.

 * I’ve been staring at this all day; some more questions…
 * I’ve downloaded the theme I prefer and uploaded into my file manager. This is
where things get tricky for me. BH sent me my “new” url – which at the moment
   is a temporary one ([http://69.195.124.159/~thegisa9/](http://69.195.124.159/~thegisa9/))
and when I get there it says “congrats if you’re reading this your install went
great!” BUT then I get directed to my thegirlwiththemaptattoo.com/wp-admin which
is my current site’s old wp.com dashboard<< not where I want to be, right?
 * I had a look into the domain transfer but its locked (???) even though it doesn’t
   expire til 2018.
 * Ok, that’s where I’m at now and it’s quite late so I’ll be back in the morning.

 * update! I’ve got it working – had to repoint the URL to my temporary domain so
I can set up everything without losing my current online site. Will change this
   to resolved 🙂
