Installation fails every time (4 posts)

Tried 1.5.8 and 1.5.1 on a mostly fresh WP with the same result:

Install works, activate causes the entire site to become unusable until I delete the plugin's directory and clear cookies.

/wp-admin and /wp-login.php produce continuous redirects to themselves, and the majority of the public static content produces a 404 (Pages still display, sans images/css).

Tried a few times, giving up.

Also, this was written to WP's error_log, without a date (only the first time):

ALTER TABLE wp_pmpro_membership_levels ADD INDEX ( enddate )
    made by activate_plugin, include_once('/plugins/paid-memberships-pro/paid-memberships-pro.php'), pmpro_checkForUpgrades, pmpro_upgrade_1_2_3

You probably have another plugin or theme edit that is trying to redirect pages to/from the login page or from HTTP to HTTPS, etc. Some common culprits are WP-HTTPS and other ecommerce plugins.

Solving these are tricky. We can do it for you if you sign up for support here: http://www.paidmembershipspro.com

Otherwise, some solutions are here: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-paid-memberships-pro-error-code-ssl_error_rx_record_too_long?replies=9

(The error message in your is another issue and won't affect how PMPro works. Thanks for the heads up on it though.)

Thanks, I already tried deactivating all plugins (I can try themes later, but each time I try this, it takes the entire live site down). Also, there is no HTTPS involved here - nothing is redirecting to SSL, I don't even have SSL set up for this domain.
