I have a domain name and holding site already online via a company called LCN.
I created it in dreamweaver, its html.

So I upgraded my account to have sql database. thats done.
I downloaded the wordpress zip file, unzipped it and then loaded it into my ftp directory.

when I try to open the wp-admin/install.php in either firefox of safari it just either comes up as plain text code on screen or it tries to download something but it doesnt do anything.

So I manually configured the sample php with my database details and added that to my ftp directory along with the rest of the word press stuff.

When I try to wp-admin/install.php what am I supposed to do? I really dont understand what I should be doing. Im a complete novice and I have never used wordpress before. I just wanted to get the basic thing set up so that someone else can help me design my website.

what am I doing wrong please?

That means that the hosting server that you're using isn't running PHP or doesn't have PHP running on your account. You'll need to contact your hosting company to get that set up.
