 * I have downloaded xampp and installed it. I have started Apache and MySQL. I
   have downloaded WordPress and changed the folder name to wordpress-trunk and
   extracted the files. I have renamed the wp-config.sample file to wp-config.php
   and edited with the following information.
    Database name: bwt Database User:
   root Database password: left blank Database host: localhost
 * I am now trying to run the WordPress installation file install.php but when I
   put the url into my browser:
    [http://localhost/xampp/htdocs/wordpress-trunk/wp-admin/install.php](http://localhost/xampp/htdocs/wordpress-trunk/wp-admin/install.php)
 * I get Object not found Error 404.
 * I am a complete novice at this so could someone explain what I need to do?
    Many
   thanks Tony

 * Update: if I type localhost/xampp into my browser I get the xampp welcome screen.
   So xampp is installed OK isn’t it?

 * Hi Tony … Happy New Year! 🙂
 * 1. yep, if you get the welcome screen, XAMPP is installed and running 🙂
 * 2. you are entering the incorrect URL; it should be:
 * `http://localhost/wordpress-trunk`
 * That will get the install going 🙂
 * One does not use the physical path to the files for a local server.

 * Hi Lyle, Happy New Year to you too!!
 * Thanks for the tip. I assumed that I had to put the full path for install.php
   as it is as I mentioned in my previous post? Anyway I managed to get it started
   with [http://localhost/wordpress-trunk/wp-admin/install.php](http://localhost/wordpress-trunk/wp-admin/install.php).
 * Thanks again for your help. Now the big next step, following your instructions
   to import the online site!Watch out for posts 🙂
 * Regards
    Tony

 * Just to say Lyle that I’ve got everything going now, thanks to your help.
 * The only strange thing is I downloaded the latest version of WordPress and WordPress
   says there is an update? I tried to update but got a Fata error Maximum execution
   time of 30 seconds exceeded?
 * BUT it works so I’ll leave it at that.
    Regards Tony
