• Hi. I’m new to the whole WordPress thing and I am looking for a few answers.

    1. Because the whole installing WordPress thing is pretty much making my brain explode, I’m probably going to have it done through Install4Free. Although, I’m a bit nervy about giving my password(s) out. Do I have anything to worry about? Is Install4Free really legit? Has anybody else done it and had a problem?

    2. I’ve had a domain and hosting account for a while. I want to put my WordPress on my site, mostly so I can control the environment (i.e. change the background, edit the HTML, etc). Plus, I have a hosting account and a domain, I might as well use them. Will putting WordPress (and using Install4Free) let me do this?

    3. When WordPress is installed on my hosting account, what do I do when I want to update my blog? Do I edit the HTML or do I come back to the WordPress site… or what?

If anybody can help me out, it would be much appreciated.

  • OK, let me address your concerns.

    1. You don’t have to worry about anything. Those involved in the install4free team are respected members of this community and were proposed by their peers as trustworthy individuals to participate in this project. I have never heard any complaints about a breach of confidentiality.

    2. You seem to not understand fully how WP works. You do not edit any html with a blogging (or cms) tool. You write posts and publish.
All the layout/design/display is controlled by Themes.
You can create your own or you can pick one of the thousands available for free: http://themes.wordpress.net

    3. Define “update”. If you meant upgrading to newer versions of WordPress: Upgrading_WordPress.

    2. I want to create my own theme. On WordPress, I know that I can change my banner at the top but I want to edit more things: background, scrollbar colors, maybe add some stuff to the sidebar, stuff like that.

    3. When I said “update”, I mean add another blog entry.

But thanks for the clarification on Install4Free.

Okay. Never mind #3. I see how to do that now.
