Install WordPress into existing domain alongside exisiting website -development

I want to improve a website that is live and hosted with its own domain/web address. It was written in FrontPage. I want to use WordPress. The host enables one click installation of WordPress.
So I want to leave the current site running and live whilst I develop a new site in the existing domain on the existing host. When its ready I want this WordPress site to take over using the existing domain address.
Can I install WordPress on the existing domain? What folder should I install it into? Will I be able when ready to make the WordPress new site be the new site for the domain?

Or is there another method to achieve the same goal?

Install WordPress in a sub-folder. Then, when you are ready, see Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

Ok so I will install WordPress on the existing domain (where the exisiting Frontpage website is) but in its own folder say $existingdomain$/wordpress as a first step.

    Many thanks.
On your link there are 3 headinsg:

Moving a Root install to its own directory
      Using a pre-existing sundirectory install
Pointing your home sites URL to a subdirectory

Which one is appropriate to my goal?

    Using a pre-existing sub-directory install

    Hi!

You can install WordPress in another directory(i.e. /wordpress) at the time of installing the WordPress. You can provide folder name in Application Name field which will appear in first step of Installation of WordPress.

    Thanks.
