• Hi,

I just did a fresh, clean install of WP and went through the install process, but when I finished it took me back to the install.php page. And it does this over and over again.

This is a new site and the reason I did a clean install was because I couldn’t login to the original site that I setup a few days ago. When I tried to login it would just take me to the homepage of the site and not to the dashboard. It worked fine at first, and all this started about four days after I setup the site.

So, I deleted all the files, deleted and re-created the database from scratch and no change. So then I deleted the whole site from the server (linux/apache/cpanel) and re-created the site then installed WP again from scratch and still the same thing! This server though has a ton of WP sites that are working fine, so I know the server is configured properly for WP.

I checked in phpmyadmin and the database is completely empty after trying the install routine a few times.

I also went in and manually edited the wp-config.php file to add the database info there, but when I went to the site after doing that, it would only open to the install.php page. I filled out the information there one more time and it redirected again to the install.php page.

There are no error messages at all… just the constant redirect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

  • It is a caused by Cookies, The stored cookies Continuously re-direct you to the Installation page. After the Installation Open the URL in Another browser. If not, open the new window in Incognito mode or Just clear your browser cookies. Surely It will help you. it happened for to us Recently in 4.7 version.

Thanks for your help. I did think of that and used incognito windows before. Today on your advice, I deleted all the cookies and tried again, but the same result.

After going through the setup process, it goes immediately to the homepage of the site upon clicking Submit. If I try to get to the dashboard in an incognito window right afterwards, same result.

So apparently it looks like it might have been the password I was using. I was using a strong password and today when I went to try again – I decided to use the default password that WordPress suggested – and suddenly it worked!

So I’m curious now, is there something about this password which would cause WordPress to reject it? (Since I’m not going to use it, I can give you the real password I was trying to use):
