  • I am setting up wordpress for the first time. I got through the setup procedure and got a log in and password. When I log in I get, “Directory has no index file.”. My domain is pointed to a file called index.html and I am not sure what to do. The site displays whatever is in index.html.

Digging around in the forums I saw that you can’t have index.html and index.php I deleted index.html and the website doesn’t work anymore. Do I need to change my settings with my host to index.php?

You want your hosting to be configured to look for index.php as a default, not index.html.

    Thanks.

I wonder why the error page specifically says to create a file called index.html? Unless I am missing something that seems misleading.

Dunno, but I can tell you that’s not a WordPress error page 🙂 Must be something your host has setup.

It is not a wordpress message. The error pages must be setup on your host’s server.
