# Install error

 * I keep this error message on install.
 * Fatal error: Failed opening required ‘//wp-settings.php’ (include_path=’.:’) 
   in //wp-config.php on line 25
 * How do i fix this problem. Reinstalled 2 times already. Any suggestions ?

 * Hi – first, please try not to post [the same problem](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/46621)
   if no one has responded in the last 30 minutes … just so you know.
 * As far as the error – what version of WP are you using, and have you altered 
   the file any? Also, a web address will help diagnose the problem. Let me know–
   it looks like it’s simply an extra slash somewhere or something, but I can’t 
   know for sure yet …

 * It looks like somewhere you’ve entered a path with a trailing slash where it 
   shouldn’t have been, though I don’t know of any place in the WordPress installation
   that you could have done that. Maybe it was in the server setup?
 * Could also be a corrupt version of one of the two files (wp-config.php and wp-
   settings.php). You might try uploading fresh copies of both of those to the appropriate
   directory on the server.

 * I tried 1.5 first and got this error. Then i upload 1.2 and i’m still getting
   the same message. Right now i’m using 1.2 blakey.
    Should i go back to 1.5?

 * I just reuploaded 1.5 and now i’m getting

 * If the file is corrupt, delete it and download a new copy of WordPress (or if
   you can get it, just the required file).
    Check the permissions on the file –
   are they set to at least 755. Check that the file exists on the server, it may
   not have been uploaded or may have been uploaded with zero length.
 * **BUT**, it seems to be a PHP-related error so you should contact your hosting
   provider, or research the solution on a forum geared toward PHP solutions.
 * In the support forums – [topic 22383](http://wordpress.org/support/topic/22383)
   seems to have an alternate solution.
