• Hello, I’ve been using WordPress for a year now. I make sites only on it. Please tell me, I have a question. Usually, I do not install cms on a new one, but copy all files from old sites and transfer them to new directories of new sites, respectively, I re-bind the databases, change the necessary information in wp-config and all the data is already in the admin panel. My question is the following – if I use this method of transfer, without installing cms over a new one, can I use any errors? Am I doing the right thing in this situation? Everything is working correctly now. Thanks in advance for your feedback.

  • It is one way of doing it. Many developers create one ‘clean’ site with basic plugins installed and configured and then ‘duplicate’ it to the new site. There are actually several good plugin that make it easy and fast to clone.

    I used to do this.

However since WP CLI matured I prefer to have a script that builds using WP CLI commands.

Whether you do it manually or using a plugin, you can only encounter errors if you missed to change something basic to the new copy.I personally do not use plugins for this, and I do it manually every time. Copying a wordpress site is a simple matter and you should not worry about errors.
