On the server is currently running a CMS that I want to replace with WordPress, only the current website that is live, can not be unreachable. I know that I can install a WordPress, only overwrites the current index.php

Is there a way that I can install WordPress without the current index.php being overwritten and that I can work with WordPress at the same time?

You might be able to but you would probably need to build a lot of workarounds. A better solution may be to install WordPress in a subdirectory, then when you’re ready to launch you can move the current CMS into a separate subdirectory and WordPress into the root directory.

Running two separate CMS without separate subfolder may lead to issues later. You should reconfigure your current CMS to work inside a subfolder, when installing WP on another subfolder.

This may require an expert hosting management so please make sure contacting your hosting provider in case they can help.
