Support » Plugin: Smash Balloon Social Photo Feed » Instagram API Changes – no longer possible to display feeds from other users

Instagram has made some sudden changes to their API today which means that it will no longer be possible to display user feeds from other Instagram accounts. You can display your own feed but not those of other users. You can only display the user feed of the account which is associated with your Access Token. It is no longer possible to display someone else’s feed using your own Access Token.

Instagram gave no warning for the sudden changes unfortunately. Please see this post for more information: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-api-changes-april-4-2018/ We apologize for any inconvenience or frustration caused by this unforeseen change.

    Hi Merkucio,

If it’s his feed then he can display it. You’d just need an Access Token from his Instagram account and so he’d need to either log into the WordPress site and use the Instagram login button on our plugin’s settings page, or he’d need to give you his Instagram login information so that you can do it for him. If you log out of Instagram in your web browser and then use the Instagram login button inside our plugin then it will prompt you to log in. You/they can then log into their Instagram account and it will give you the Access Token for their account which you can copy/paste into the Access Token field – as shown here.

Let me know whether that helps or if you have any trouble at all, and I apologize for any inconvenience.

    John

Yeah, it resolved after I renew an Access Token and ID. Thanks.

Glad to hear that Merkucio. If you have any other questions or issues at all then just let me know!

    @smashballoon

Does plugin can only display a window (avatar + text e.g/or something) to profile instagram, without feed, in order to do not use api token by owner?

    Hi all,
I tried to renew the token, but it still doesn’t work.

Is it possible to display multiple feeds with this plugin due to the new API changes? If so, how would customers login to Instagram to authenticate that feed?

    Hey michaelyeg,

Sorry we seemed to have missed your message! Can you send a link to the page you have the feed on? I can take a look and determine the issue then.

    @shadi Manna,

Take a look at our related FAQ here: https://smashballoon.com/get-access-token-from-another-account/

If either of you prefer, you can contact us on our website as well: https://smashballoon.com/instagram-feed/support/

Thank you, what I was looking for is here
https://smashballoon.com/display-multiple-instagram-feeds/#multiple-user-feeds. I need multiple feeds on different pages, so in this case they manually need to get the access token and place it in the shortcode, correct?

Plugin Contributor Craig at Smash Balloon

    (@craig-at-smash-balloon)

Yes that’s correct. The combination of those two FAQs should help you communicate how to do this for your users.

Let me know if you have more questions!

Hello! We’ve made the updates as directed by our widget still doesn’t work – the feed doesn’t display, the “load more” button doesn’t work and the “follow on instagram” button just takes the user to instagram.com. If you want to take a peek, it’s the bottom center widget at http://www.carolinaconvenientcare.com/

    Thanks in advance!

    Hey raleighwood,

It looks like part of your access token is saved as your user id. Try changing this:

    544627504.3a81a9f

    to this:

    544627504

Let me know if you’re still having trouble!

Craig! AHA! That pesky “.” that I missed. Thank you kindly for the extra set of eyes! Working wonderfully now.

    Cheers!

Has anyone successfully got more than one instagram feed running on their site? I am finding that only the person who’s access token I have entered into the Instagram Feed Pro settings will work.

Hoping I am wrong, but this seems to be what the Smash Balloon team is saying.

    Has anyone tried this technique?

    Hey James,

You can definitely display more than one feed still. You will need to upgrade the plugin to version 1.8 or higher (currently the latest version is 1.8.2). Once you upgrade, follow these instructions https://smashballoon.com/get-access-token-from-another-account/ to get an access token from another account and use it in the shortcode like this:

[instagram-feed accesstoken=”enter the other access token here”]

Let me know if you have any other questions!
