• I am concerned that this very popular plugin is not actively supported? I appreciate life gets in the way at time and we must all be patient but there does not seem to be much interaction from the author. I hope you are OK.

I have an issue that I can’t get my head around. I am using the “Insert Media button” on the TinyMCE toolbar. It is using the latest WordPress 5.3, TinyMCE, 4.9.6 and bbPress 2.6.2.

When I insert a MP4 URL into a topic / reply in bbPress as a ADMIN it is all correct and functional. But when I insert it as a non-admin the inner SOURCE tag has the out chevrons escaped and I don’t know how to resolve.

    That’s not exactly the case.

However TinyMCE Advanced is a “mature” plugin. It’s been around for about 13 years and most of the questions that are being asked now have been asked (and answered) dozens of times before. 🙂

    To answer your specific question:
    – bbPress limits the HTML tags that can be used. That limitation doesn’t apply for admins, so admins can post “unfiltered HTML”.
    – You can extend the allowed HTML in bbPress but that will reduce or even “break” some of the security restrictions. Good idea to do this only for trusted users.
    – This doesn’t have anything to do with this plugin.

    Thanks for your reply.

    – I already have some custom filter running that permits the additional keywords (atleast for video / source). It allows the keywords for video and source but it escapes the source tag open / close chevrons.

    Thanks for your reply.

but it escapes the source tag open / close chevrons

Are these escaped when you look in the underlying textarea after adding them? Generally TinyMCE doesn’t escape any tags this way. Of course, if you just paste some HTML in the editor, it assumes you’re pasting text and will escape the htmlspecialchars to make that text readable.

Yes, they are escaped. In short I have to be an admin if I want to insert a video. I had hoped adding the keywords for the video / source into my allowed tags array would have been enough to make it all work but it is not. 🙁

You’ll need to look at allowed HTML tags in bbPress, see https://wordpress.org/support/topic/compatibility-with-the-prismatic-plugin-and-bbpress/#post-12193955.

Yes, that is my topic. 🙂
