[Resolved] Inserting links causes table not to display

  • Hi,
I recently noticed a table had not converted over when moving to tablepress. As I have close to a thousand tables I was not concerned and re-imported the .csv.
However, this table has links (to race details) in one column. As soon as I started to repopulate this column with valid links, the table disappears from page view.
If I remove the links, the table re-appears. What am I doing wrong please?
I have used the ‘insert link’ button as well as manually inserting code just to make sure its not a typo by myself.

    Thanks

    Hi,

I don’t really see why this should be happening.
Can you please post the link to a page with an affected table?

    Thanks!
    Tobias

    Sure,

I’ve just tried again and same problem. Using chrome. Will try other browsers. It’s currently not shown as I have placed a link into table.

    Calendar

    Thanks

This is the link details I have inserted into one cell.

    Looks ok to me?

    Hi,

thanks for the link. As it seems, there are problems with reading the table data from the database.
Can you access and edit the table without problems in the admin area?

Also, can you please export the table to JSON and CSV format and email me the export files? (You can find my email address in the main plugin file “tablepress.php”.)

    Thanks,
    Tobias

    Thanks Tobias,

Yes I can certainly access the table in the editor / admin area. This is after I have re-imported the file.
I’ve done some more searching as I had a smaller table listing 6 events (with links) on another page, but that has also disappeared during migration. So appears to have difficulty with any table that contains links. The migration just wiped the table completely.

I have to go through the whole site now to evaluate what other tables may be missing.

I will email you the export files now.

    Thanks for your time.

    Hi,

I don’t really think that it is the links, that wouldn’t really make sense. The plugin doesn’t know that these are links, this is all treated as text internally.
However, my assumption is that there are “uncommon characters” in the table, which cause trouble with the character encoding.
I should be able to find out more about this with the files.

    Thanks,
    Tobias

I’ve just tried to export the files you requested but they are now blank. It’s wiped the whole table again.
I will have to re-import making sure I don’t enter any links and re-export. All very strange.

    Hi,

yes, that’s even stranger. But as the export routine shares some code with the rendering, this is also kind of expected, to some degree.

Can I maybe take a direct look at your admin area? If so, please also send me an email.

    Tobias

    Email sent,

    Please advise once received.

    Thanks

    Hi,

for everybody: Apparently, this is caused by the “WordPress should correct invalidly nested XHTML automatically” checkbox on the “Writing” settings screen. This should be unchecked.
I will investigate if I can find a permanent solution to this.

Thanks to dazmeister for reporting this problem and for letting me investigate it on her site!

    Regards,
    Tobias
