Hi @venutius,
Thanks for reaching out, and I’m sorry to hear you’re facing issues.
From your message, it seems the problem might be related to character encoding – specifically how the & symbol (represented as & or #038; in HTML) is being rendered. However, T4B News Ticker itself doesn’t alter translation strings or interfere with other plugins’ admin texts or menus. Also, we don’t modify any global admin scripts that could cause such a broad JS failure in the backend.
Since we haven’t seen this issue reported by any other users, it’s likely to be a conflict with another plugin or possibly a theme function. To help identify the root cause, could you please share:
- A link to your site (or staging site if available)
- A screenshot of the JavaScript console error
- The full error message from the console
- A list of active plugins or any recent changes
This information will help us investigate further and ensure compatibility across setups.
Looking forward to your response.
Kind regards,
Iftekhar Alam
Thanks for replying. I think I know the problem, and how to fix it, as another plugin started doing the same thing, and I was able to work out that they were checking for ‘undefined’ as a check for the availability of localStorage, in js, rather than null. This caused the selector to pass the check, but then fail when it was not found. I think my use case was unusual but not singular, having no localStorage available. I’ve not looked at your plugin yet as I’m off to a music festival for the weekend. But leave it with me, I’ll take a look when I get back. I use your ticker on another site and it works wonderfully. I think this is one of those edge cases where the majority of users would have the resource available, or get the error, but just go on and find another plugin that worked.
Hi @venutius,
Thanks a lot for the detailed follow-up – really appreciate your insight! It sounds like a very specific edge case, and your observation about the localStorage check is quite helpful.
Just to clarify, our plugin (T4B News Ticker) doesn’t use localStorage, so the issue might be triggered by an unusual browser/system configuration or a conflict with another script. Once you’re back and have a chance to look into it, feel free to share your findings – I’d be happy to assist further if needed.
Enjoy the music festival, and thanks again for using the ticker on your other site – glad to hear it’s working well there!
Best regards,
Iftekhar Alam
Hi there. It came back. It was then I actually went to my other site to check, and t4b is seriously broken there too. Even though it is a very different site, different theme, very little customisation and very basic in its features – just a blog, really. So I have had to deactivate it on both sites now.
I’ve also thought of a unique ticker style I want to achieve, so I may end up finding another plugin.
Also, there are a number of calls to localstorage in your plugin
