# Insert/edit link Missing Title Field?

 * I was wondering why the ability to add the title tag to hyperlinks using the “
Insert/edit link” function has been removed in v4.2?
 * A few versions ago, title tag disappeared from “Add Media” function, so one now
must add it in manually (it used to be done automatically), and now the same
   thing was done to hyperlinks.
 * It’s puzzling that usable features, that were once part of WP are gradually being
removed, making usability of the platform more complicated with each new release.

 * > The title attribute is part of the XHTML 1.0 strict web standard of w3c
 * This is true, however the XHTML 1.0 standard is very old. The most modern standards,
and the ones you should strive towards, is HTML 5 or HTML 5.1 which is currently
in the working draft phase: [http://www.w3.org/TR/html51/](http://www.w3.org/TR/html51/)
 * Note that the HTML 5 standards define both HTML and XHTML specifications. There
is no further development on the XHTML 1.0 or 1.1 standards, and there has not
been since 2010. They have been discontinued.

 * Yes, XHTML 1.0 strict is very old. But that means: there is no need to think
about whether the title attribute is good or bad. It works for more than ten
years very well. That’s what I mean,

 * These standards are not finished yet.
 * > Note that the HTML 5 standards define both HTML and XHTML specifications.
 * Yes, I know! And also in HTML 5, the title attribute is still valid. So also
by this view it is not necessary to think about to delete the title attribute
in WordPress. There are so many thing which can be developed in WordPress. But
why the hell the developers destroy the workflow which is valid by w3c and good
   since the first WordPress version?!

 * In my opinion this is damn arrogant! Ok, let’s use a plugin to restore a main
function of WordPress Core. But this is **not** where it belongs!
 * Even the discussion about the question whether to destroy that good function
and to put it into a plugin is just ridiculous!
    The consequence, that function
got deleted, is just sad! **Give me my title attribute back in 4.2.1!!**

 * I don’t understand the issue, you can or will be able to download a plugin to
   add the functionality back in.

 * Of course it is finished. The not is a type writing error. Sorry for that!

 * You can put everything in a plugin to fight the newest WordPress development.
   Please don’t be ridiculous. 😉

 * That’s WordPress’ philosophy, that’s why I said if you’re unsure why features
are being removed it’s best to re-read that page.

 * That page is ridiculous too. Everybody I know in German WordPress Meetups from
Hanover, until Hamburg down to Switzerland is laughing about this “future”.

 * I for one would like to avoid yet another plugin … yet another plugin to see
fail in the near future, yet another plugin that can cause conflicts … which
is unneeded, especially when it’s something as trivial like this.
 * Take a look at the old “Links” feature … this one was removed correctly (IMO).

It’s hidden by default, but those depending on it can still use it without having
to worry about yet another plugin.
 * I for one do not consider plugins intended to “fix” functionality that was already
there, rather as something to be used to add functionality that was never there.

 * > I for one would like to avoid yet another plugin
 * Your opinion is noted, however, it is also irrelevant. The feature is already
gone. It’s not coming back. The only way to add it back is via a plugin. That’s
the bottom line here, and the only answer you’re going to get.
 * You’re complaining about a decision that was made several months ago and which
pretty much none of the core team disagrees with. Many of them have posted remarks
to the effect of “about time” and similar on social media sites. This is something
they’ve been wanting to get rid of for *years*. You’re in the minority on this
   one.
 * So, either you use a plugin, or you do without the Title field. That’s about
   that.

 * Thank you Otto for providing the plugin – it’s very much appreciated.
 * I was under the impression that the WP community could have a voice in topics
like this -even if it’s just an open discussion. It seems this is not the place.
I’ve meant no disrespect, and most certainly much gratitude to the WP team for
   developing such a great platform.

 * Thanks Andrew – point well taken.
 * What would be the easiest way to follow developments?
I for one, and I assume
plenty others, might not be aware of how to follow these developments?
 * I’ve looked at [core.trac.wordpress.org](https://core.trac.wordpress.org/).

   It’s a little overwhelming …

    I’ve never followed them either … 🙁
 * I’ll snoop around and see what I can find. It’s quite overwhelming.
    (also shows
the amount work done by the WP team, for which my respects)
