Title: Insert link / hyperlink not working Last modified: August 20, 2016 --- # Insert link / hyperlink not working * [homegrowndotorg](https://wordpress.org/support/users/homegrowndotorg/) * (@homegrowndotorg) * [14 years, 3 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/insert-link-hyperlink-not-working/) * I just updated to 3.3.1 yesterday, and now when I highlight text in visual mode >click the insert/edit link icon>paste in a url>hit add link it simply returns me to the list of posts and the link is not inserted. I have deactivated all plugins and manually re-installed the update using Filezilla (while deleting my wp-content folder first). Also, when I try to update any of the plug-ins, the page goes blank and hangs (but that’s another issue I guess) I am also using a custom theme. Help! You need to use something like [phpMyAdmin](http://codex.wordpress.org/phpMyAdmin) to deactivate all plugins. * First backup your database. Then, in the table wp_options, under the option_name column (field) find the active_plugins row. I’m not going to be able to do that next step you recommend until Monday, so i’ve renamed plugins.hold, activated our spam plug-in (we got tons while it was deactivated) and activated our custom theme again. I have deactivated all plug-ins (Akismet was the only one that I had activated, and this last step seems to have de-activated it), tried a new post and adding a new link with no luck.
