Title: Insert link / hyperlink not working Last modified: August 20, 2016 --- # Insert link / hyperlink not working * [homegrowndotorg](https://wordpress.org/support/users/homegrowndotorg/) * (@homegrowndotorg) * [14 years, 3 months ago](https://wordpress.org/support/topic/insert-link-hyperlink-not-working/) * I just updated to 3.3.1 yesterday, and now when I highlight text in visual mode >click the insert/edit link icon>paste in a url>hit add link it simply returns me to the list of posts and the link is not inserted. I have deactivated all plugins and manually re-installed the update using Filezilla (while deleting my wp-content folder first). Also, when I try to update any of the plug-ins, the page goes blank and hangs (but that’s another issue I guess) I am also using a custom theme. Help! If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s). * – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems. * – [resetting the plugins folder](http://codex.wordpress.org/FAQ_Troubleshooting#How_to_deactivate_all_plugins_when_not_able_to_access_the_administrative_menus.3F) by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. I have done all of the things listed except switching the theme because I fear losing the custom theme that I use. I add text, click the chain to add a link, enter a url and I get: Are you sure? This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave – data you have entered may not be saved.
