 * Hi, can you please tell me how I can add the gallery plugin directly into my 
   theme’s template files, using php? In this instance the shortcodes aren’t of 
   use. Thanks.

 * If you have the shortcodes, then they ARE of use. Use [do_shortcode()](http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/do_shortcode).
   I use it all the time in my PHP template files.
