Yes. You will have to create a custom sidebar in your theme template and make sure it is formatted in a way that is compatible with whatever slideshow script you are using.

I understand what you are saying. To be able to do this you need to know how to write php code in your WordPress theme or you have to find a plugin that has this functionality. It is not a function that is built in to WordPress.
