    It seems that there's something in the most recent version that freaked out my VPS to the point where it was reporting load averages of 28. 28!

    Simply disabling the caching plugin stopped the overworking of the server.

    To my experience high server loads are caused by w3tc only when activated for the first time. Writing the disk cache and shoveling everything to the CDN in a bulk happens once, but then the load returns to normal.

    That was not what was happening in my case; server loads were exceptionally high post-upgrade. They returned to normal when I disabled the plug in. Seems like there was a massive amount of I/O, similar to some other complaints I have seen here about huge INODE numbers.

    Where are the inodes located?
    Are they the actual cache files?
